Einar Jarmund is the founding partner, owner and chief executive officer of Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects, which he started in 1995 in Oslo, Norway, with his business partner, Håkon Vigsnæs. The projects developed by this practice cover various structure scales including university buildings at Svalbard and The Norwegian Ministry of Defence in Oslo. Numerous projects completed by Jarmund’s practice have been published and exhibited around the world.
Jarmund studied architecture at the Oslo School of Architecture and at the University of Washington in Seattle, where he obtained the Valle Scholarship. He has received a citation and honor award from the Seattle chapter of the American Institute of Architects.
He has served as a member and chairman of several professional architecture boards and juries. In recent years he has served as deputy chairman of the Norwegian Form board, board member of The Norwegian Centre for Design and Architecture and is currently a jury member of the Ecola Award in Tyskland.
He has been a visiting professor at universities including Rhode Island School of Design and Penn State. He has also lectured extensively in European countries and in the United States, in locales that include England, Cuba, Canada, Scotland and Croatia.
Jarmund will present a lecture at 5 p.m. Monday, Sept. 14, in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, Room 250 of Vol Walker Hall, on the University of Arkansas campus in Fayetteville, as part of the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design lecture series.
He will present recently completed architectural projects from the practice of Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects, in conjunction with the exhibition Constructed Views 2010-2015, which is on display in Vol Walker Hall.
Immediately after his lecture, an opening reception will be held for Constructing Views 2010-2015, an exhibition of design work by Jarmund/Vigsnæs Architects. It is on display through Oct. 9 in the Fred and Mary Smith Exhibition Gallery in Vol Walker Hall.
