Nicole Warns is the principal and director of design at TBG Partners in Austin, Texas. She is a licensed landscape architect.

Warns will present a lecture at 4:30 p.m. Monday, Oct. 30, in Ken and Linda Sue Shollmier Hall, Room 250 of Vol Walker Hall, on the U of A campus, as part of the fall lecture series in the Fay Jones School of Architecture and Design.

In her lecture, “You Can't Be What You Can't See: Visualizing Diversity in Leadership,” Warns will discuss how the profession is growing more and more inclusive. Yet, despite signs of progress, there remains a deficit in diversity at leadership levels. She will discuss how people should not expect to raise a diverse group of future leaders if young designers do not see themselves represented at a higher level.

As a leader in the field, Warns, PLA, ASLA, will share her career path with the hope that some audience might see themselves in her story and discover a way to navigate the first few years of their design career.

With more than 20 years of experience, Warns has led the design vision for multiple project types of varying scales in the United States and internationally. In her current role, she not only guides the vision for major projects and co-leads the firm's sustainability mission, but also works to develop tools and platforms to elevate the design practice at her firm. In addition to being a champion of the design process, her passion lies in mentoring younger designers.

Warns is the 2023 Verna C. Garvan Distinguished Visitor in Landscape Architecture.

The school is pursuing continuing education credits for this lecture through the American Institute of Architects.

This lecture is free and open to the public. Seating is limited.
